Ok well this week we baptised Guadalupe. She is sweet and I already explained about her in the email I sent with the pics. Well we don't have a set date for this week but we have some prospects. I know that we should be baptizing every single week. This is a commandment from one of the Seventy, Elder Johnson. We have faith that someone will accept this week but we will need a miracle. So we are going to apply the faith, hope, love and humility. We will see if it happens. But I feel like we lost focus a little bit and that's why we don't have a date this week. Really I know that this promise that Elder Johnson made is true because I have asked through prayer to know and I have seen it in these last couple of weeks. I know that I should get down on myself but I need to step it up. God expects me to baptize every week. But I asked again last night to know if this promise was true and in my mind I heard, yes as long as you have love. So that is the key. If we want to have success we have to first love God and love the people we are teaching. When we begin to loose that love is when miracles stop. Constant repentance is required as it says in Alma 26:22. So that is what we will have to do.
I had an experience this week as we were teaching a lesson that I didn't like. We were talking about baptism and I told the lady that her baptism wasn't valid. And she said that we should respect others beliefs and things like that, not saying it directly at me but I felt like it was for me. I had been in that same situation before and I had said the same thing to Apolinar and it helped him to realize that he needed to be baptized. So why didn't it work this time? Because every child of God is different and everyone deserves a different answer. I have thought a lot about that and how really when we are put into a situation that we have already seen before we think that we know how to handle it and we trust in ourselves to do it and we don't trust in the spirit to tell us what to do or say. It happens a lot as missionaries. Many times people have the same doubts about our church and we tend to give the same answer… but maybe that's not the portion that they need (D&C84:85) maybe they just need to hear a testimony or they need a certain scripture, but not the same scripture you just used 20 mins ago in another lesson to answer the exact same doubt. So I had to repent and search for the guidance of the spirit more in the lessons. And we had some sweet experiences this week. We had some investigators that were a little hard hearted and didn't want to change their religion.. but as we answered their doubts with the spirit, really I saw their faces change, I know that they felt something, but now its their responsibility to act upon the promptings that they have received.
Oh yeah, and mom I just want you to do something for me.. . when I am getting off the plane please don't be dressed up in Mexican clothes with sombreros and things like that. I was thinking about that the other day and I said, “that's something that mom would do”. Just be normal like we were when Mike got home.
Oh yeah, Guadalupe wanted some of those stickers for the book of Mormon, so if you could send those pronto(weird because that word is actually Spanish)… I hope the package gets here before I get home…haha 3 months.
So I was reading in 1 Nephi 3 and I was thinking why was Nephi so determined and not his brothers. In Nephi 2 :17 it talks about Nephi receiving a whiteness from the holy ghost that what his father had said was true. He asked for a testimony. I am sure before he doubted too but he asked God for help. His brothers never asked. And Nephi knew he needed to ask because he was taught as a little kid to do that.
We also found a less active that we are reactivating. He is sealed in the temple and everything. Right now his wife works on Sundays and can't go but he went last Sunday and is getting more pumped but he said that's why he left because he didn't like going alone. His name is Alfonso. We gave service at his house. We put a sealing type thing on his roof so when it rains it doesn't go through. I was so tired after that but it felt so good giving service. Also there was some guy that lives by Guadalupe's house that was working and carrying buckets of dirt up a huge hill to buy a house. We said can we help you?? And everyone here always says no if we ask them that but my comp grabbed a bucket and we both took up 2 huge buckets of dirt up the hill. The guy came back down and gave us such a sincere thank you that it really touched my heart. I felt that I had made some one's burden a little bit lighter that day.
Well, I love you all and can't wait to talk with you guy soon. Keep praying for me and the work, we need lots of help.
Love, Elder Mahas
Here are some pics of when we went to the Jalisco Stadium. It is like 2 blocks from the church. We went last Monday. That is where they play soccer every Saturday and Sunday. The Chivas and the America play there. They are big teams here in Mexico. Here is a pic of a commercial we are going to put out. It says in the background.... "want meat" and I am eating the Jesus the Christ book. haha . . sickest book ever...
And the last is the baptism that we had this week of Guadalupe. She is way strong. Her dad basically disowned her because she got baptized but she said she didn't care because she knew it was true and she knew it's what she had to do. The ward is planning to call her to work in the primary. She is sweet!!! We have to come see them get sealed too!!! Her husband is a less active.
