Week 38 in Mexico

Guadalajara

Well, I forgot my paper this week that I always write stuff on so that I can remember what I should write. But first of all I got a new companion, Elder Sevier. He has like two changes here in Mexico and he is from St. George. He said that he worked for Stout Roofing, and he worked a lot for Bud Mahas Construction. He is pretty cool, but it is weird because it makes me want to speak English with him because we are both American. But I can’t because he is really, really struggling with the language. I am trying to help him a lot every day in comp study. I am just letting him teach me almost the whole time so that he can feel more comfortable with the language. But I think I really need to learn a lot of patience and humility in this change. Patience because it will take time for the language to come and humility because everyone tells me that I sound like a Mexican and I talk really well and then I think it makes my comp feel bad. And I think I have kind of forgotten really where this gift came from in the first place. It has nothing to do with me. My Heavenly Father has given me the opportunity to understand and talk and teach in this language. I called a sister for the lunch and she asked me if I was the new missionary and then we were talking about the lunch and then she asked me where I was from and I told her, Utah, and she was way surprised because she thought I was Mexican which was pretty cool to hear. But really I need to humble myself and realize that that has not come from me and it is not all about me.

The area is pretty big and I am liking it so far. There are lots of parts that we hardly go to and we only really stay in one part but I feel like the other parts have some potential. We don’t have that many members close that help us out. It’s like the opposite of Vallarta. But we have put a goal that by the end of this change we will have found 4 potential priesthood holders who will be able to strengthen this ward.

It rained last night like never before and it almost came all the way into our house. It was crazy. And today I had to go to Office Max to go buy a new bag because mine broke. So if you see that, dad on the bill you will know why.

I love you all so very much and I am thankful for your support. Please pray for my companion more than anything so that he can get a hold of this language. I am doing all that I know how to help him. I am studying the New Testament and am loving all the parables and I love how Christ teaches. Notice that most of the time he is not teaching with words but with questions. That is what I am bettering in my lessons. I have come up with a bunch of real deep questions so that the people can think for themselves and understand the doctrine.

Question: Someone asked me yesterday if it was Moses and Elias that was at the mount of transfiguration. But then she told me that in the Joseph Smith Translation it says that it was John the Baptist. What do you ya got for me Stever?

I will try to send pics this week coming up. Pray for the work down here because there is so much work to be done.
